KEY THEMES
• How to
Overcome Obstacles
A combination of
strategy, teamwork, and above all unflagging commitment to work through
obstacles is necessary to succeed.
• How to be
Flexible and Dynamic in Problem Solving
You must have
the flexibility to retreat, regroup, and try again when faced with setbacks.
• How to
Persevere in the Face of the Impossible
Having the will
to continue when it feels impossible is critical to accomplishing
overwhelmingly large goals.
• How to Work as
a Team Toward a Common Goal
Support, trust,
respect and communication are the ingredients for a successful team.
• How to
Maintain Belief in the Goal
Total belief in
the ultimate goal is necessary for success.
"The Power of
Commitment: Rising Above Overwhelming Adversity on the Ascent of Mount
Everest" is Nancy’s riveting story of her ascent of the world’s highest
mountain, in the face of obstacles that would have defeated mountaineers with
less drive. Nancy’s warm personal style makes her insights about teamwork,
perseverance, and personal resourcefulness all the more compelling. The result
is an utterly captivating presentation that will not be forgotten.
Invited to be
the lead climber on the 2001 "Everyone Has an Everest Expedition", Nancy
forged a highly dependable team out of a diverse group of strangers and
proceeded to overcome the "usual" daunting obstacles encountered by Himalayan
expeditions: incredibly complex logistics, potentially dangerous weather,
challenging group dynamics, and intense mental and physical exertion.
Then, at Camp
II, personal disaster struck – Nancy developed a case of High Altitude
Pulmonary Edema, an unpredictable and often fatal condition that forces
climbers off the mountain and out of the game, sometimes forever. She was now
forced to descend slowly and come to terms with catastrophic failure.
After days of
soul searching and despite near-universal advice to leave, Nancy decided to
fly in the face of all conventional wisdom and make another bid for the
summit. By any measure, the odds of her succeeding were minimal, but without
renewed commitment they would be zero. Incredibly- by relying on the team she
had built and her own dauntless will - ten exhausting days later, Nancy
reached the summit of Everest.

CLIENT COMMENTS
"After
researching many top adventure professionals we selected Nancy for our
conference keynote speaker based on who she is, not just what she does. While
she is one of the world’s most accomplished climbers who constantly push the
edge, her story is not just about the rock or the mountain. It is about what
people are capable of when the put aside ego and focus on their dreams."

your consciousness, pretty amazing. Her presentation conveys a sense of
commitment and adventure. Definitely one of the AMC’s highlights this year"

Nancy Feagin's presentation of her personal saga experienced
while summiting Mt. Everest had us on the edge of our seats. Her near death
from high altitude sickness, amazing recovery subsequent summiting was told
with the emotion only some one with such an experience can express. I've heard
several mountaineers sagas of summiting Everest. Nancy Feagin's is special and
not to be missed. John Bergfeld
