One of the world's
foremost mountaineers and adventurers, Mr. Ridgeway is known to many
through his writing, photography and Emmy award-winning filmmaking.
Rolling Stone magazine called Ridgeway "the real Indiana Jones."

Along with three
companions, Mr. Ridgeway became the first American to summit K2 and the
first to do it without bottled oxygen.
As Patagonia's Vice
President of Communications and Environmental Initiatives, Rick Ridgeway
develops, implements, and promotes the second two of the company's three-part
mission statement to make the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, and use
business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. Mr.
Ridgeway simultaneously oversees the company's environmental grant-making,
internal and external environmental education, and special multi-year
environmental projects.
For fifteen years he was
also owner/president of the outdoor stock photo and film agency Adventure
Photo & Film, before selling it to focus on writing and filmmaking. At the
same time he has been active in the outdoor equipment industry, working as a
consultant for the Kelty Pack Co. for over 20 years. Beginning in early 2004
Mr. Ridgeway decided to change direction and, using his knowledge in media as
well as the outdoor equipment industry, accepted a position with the clothing
company Patagonia.
Mr. Ridgeway has also
produced and directed over 30 adventure shows for television and is the author
of six books, including Seven Summits, The Shadow of Kilimanjaro, Below
Another Sky, and The Big Open.
