RICARDO TORRES-NAVA:
First Latin
American to summit Mount Everest and to complete the double version of
the Seven Summits. Named “The Sportsman of
the Century” by the Mexican government and awarded an special prize by
former President Ernesto Zedillo. Also decorated as “Sportsman of the

Born in Nueva Rosita,
Coahuila State, Mexico on December 23rd, 1954.
Professional mountain
guide has worked for Mountain Travel-Sobek, American Alpine Institute,
REI, Dav-Summit amongst others before founding “Tepehua Expeditions” his
own adventure travel company.
Starting his climbing
career at 11 years of age ascending Popo, Izta and Orizaba volcanoes in
Mexico he has further achieve the following summits:
NORTH AMERICA:
Mount Mc Kinley in
Alaska , Mount Rainier in Washington State, Mt. Shasta in California,
First Mexican climbs to
frozen cascades in the Canadian Rockies.
SOUTH AMERICA:
Chimborazo, Cotopaxi
and Tunguragua in Ecuador.
Huascaran in Peru.
Several mountains in
the “Cordillera Real” in Bolivia.
Twelve expeditions and
nine summits by different routes to Aconcagua, Argentina.
EUROPE:
Two ascents to (South
side ) Mt. Ararat, Turkey.
Several climbs on the
Italian Dolomites.
Mt. Elbrus in Russia.
AFRICA:
Mt. Kilimanjaro by the
Heim Glacier (First Latin American and Mexican ascent by that route).
ASIA:
Mt. Kinabalu in Borneo,
Malasia.
Nanga San and
Kala-Patar in Nepal.
Mount Everest. First
Latin American and Mexican ascent. For this achievement the following
awards were obtained: National Sportsman of the Year 1989, Sportsman of
the Year (Press award) Herald of the Year to the Best on Sports. Special
decoration of the Mexican Government.
Climber and Head of
the Mexican Expedition to Broad Peak 1991, Climber and Head of the
international expedition to K2 1992 including amongst the climbers Gary
Ball and Rob Hall of New Zealand.
Member of the Russian
-Mexican expedition to K2 1993 by the Chinese side (new route attempt)
headed by Vladimir Balyverdin.

First urban climb to
the Stouffer-President Hotel (40 stories in height)
Head of the scuba
diving projects to the Poop lagoon 5000 m.
Author of the book “
The Conquest of Everest” published by Ed. Diana, Mexico.
Co- author of the book
“Seven Summits” Steve Bell editor published by Mitchell -Beazley,
London.
Winner of the
Ecological prizes “Selva Lacandona” and “Niccolo Macchiavelli” for its
work on reforesting and cleaning the trekking sites in Pakistan from
Askole to Concordia and Hushe to Concordia.
He has also
participated in marathons and triathlons. He actually scuba dives, water
skis, cycles, practices cross-country ski, downhill ski, swims and rides
his Harley-Davidson.
Also he is involved in
community projects dealing with juvenile leadership and fighting
addictions.
He belongs to the
Masorti (conservatory) Jewish Community in Mexico known as Bet-El where
he is in charge of Special projects and events coordinating sports
activities ranging from senior citizens to children
camps.
